F2 have been working really hard in phonics and we are doing really well at remembering our sounds. This term we are now working on Phase 3 (the orange graphemes and tricky words on the chart).
At the moment we are learning....

Can you practise them at home?
Our new topic is...
We can't wait to learn all about it.
Letters to Tim Peake
We have all loved learning about space this half term! The children wanted to find out about astronauts so we spent a week learning about Tim Peake. We watched Cosmic Classroom from last year where Riley B from year 2 had a question answered by Tim from the International Space Station. All the children had lots of questions so we thought it would be a good idea to write to Tim Peake to ask him some of our questions. We are going to tweet them to him and are really hoping he will see them!
Have a look below at our writing. The children thought of some great questions!
On Wednesday 25th January 2017, something strange had happened in our classroom. The classroom was a mess! Not so strange after a busy morning with a group of 4 year olds, but this was first thing on a morning. When the children arrived they found a chair turned over, scissors and bits of paper all over. The worst find however, to the F2's disgust, was all the pens and the glue sticks were on the floor with NO LIDS ON!!
But who could have done such a thing? It was then that we spotted outside some unusual footprints.... it must have been aliens that came to visit! We found were they must have landed too.
We decided that we should measure the footprints to see how big the aliens were and decide which was the largest. We also thought it would be a good idea to write to the aliens.
We had lots of questions including...
Why did you come here? What did you want? Will you visit again? How did you get here?
Visit to the Moon
On Friday 13th January 2017 we joined Miss Baxter's class and went to the moon! Mrs Pattison and Mrs Shakeshaft checked and stamped our passports before we were allowed to go. We then searched the field for the rocket but NASA had forgotten to deliver it. Luckily, Miss Petty had brought her parachute as a back up plan and we used it to take us to the moon! When we got to the moon we saw lots of different things. We saw rockets, planets, the International Space Station, craters, shooting stars, footsteps and moon buggies. We thought it was very dark and dusty on the moon and we noticed that there was no wind and no trees. We then jumped off the moon and landed back on the playground. Finally, we went back into the classroom and ate the biscuits and honey that Baby Bear had left on the moon.
Welcome back F2!
It sounds like everyone had a fantastic Christmas.
We have enjoyed our first week back at school and have started to think about our topic ‘Space’. It is fascinating. We have started to look at information books about space and some of us have even been finding out facts or making pictures at home.
We have been exploring our Space Stations and our Space Den.
We read ‘Whatever Next’. We really enjoyed acting out the story. It was quite funny when we put the space helmet on our heads.
We have been learning the days of the week and months of the year. We have even tried to put them in order.
What a busy week!
We watched a video from cbeebies called 'Poppies' and listened to a story called 'Poppy's Day' to learn about remembrance day. We then made poppies to go on a display in the computing suite.
We have been learning about Diwali in R.E. with Mrs Grey. We created lots of different Diwali themed crafts and then we enjoyed doing some Bhangra and Bollywood dancing in the hall.
We have had a brilliant start to our first term at school. The children have all settled in really well and are quickly learning our routines. Keep your eyes peeled for photos as we add them.
Tuesday 4th October 2016
Today we went to the church for our Harvest Festival. We listened to all the other classes sing songs and share poems to celebrate Harvest and then it was our turn. F2 did a brilliant job singing our song 'Harvest Day'. Ask your child if they can give you a rendition.
We have been thinking about who helps us at school. We went for a visit to the school office and learnt about what Mrs Marshall and Mrs Cooper do. We had lots of questions. We also went to see who else works at school and walked around the school looking for people who were busy.
Next we thought about what we would like to be when we grow up. The F2's had some brilliant answers and reasons why.
