Term Time Holidays

At Wilberfoss School we are committed to working with all other East Riding of Yorkshire Schools and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to reduce the number of school days missed due to term time holidays. This agreement has been drawn up and published as a term time holiday policy that all Head teachers will adhere to when considering any parental request.

East Riding Of Yorkshire Council has recently updated its guidance, available to download included below as "Absence - exc. circumstances". This document states:

"You are required under the Education Act (1996) to ensure your child attends school regularly. There is, however, a discretionary power held by Head teachers to authorise absence in exceptional circumstances."

"Please note this is not an entitlement. The Head teacher will only authorise absence in line with the East Riding Behaviour & Attendance Partnership ‘Absence From School For Exceptional Circumstances Policy’. Head  teachers will not authorise absences if they believe it is to the detriment of a child’s education."
"There is no longer a provision in law for Head teachers to authorise an absence for the purpose of a term time holiday."

The downloads below contain the holiday request form and guidance sheets. It is recomended that you contact the school to discuss any absence in advance.

All Weather Policy - Snow Day Advice

Our full policy on weather (flooding, wind, excessive heat etc) is available from below, or from the school policies page.

In the event of heavy snow necessitating closure of some form, the policy states:

  • Teachers2Parents text messaging will alert parents.
  • Radio York and Radio Humberside will be alerted so that details can be broadcast. (NB We cannot guarantee broadcast.)
  • A notice and a member of staff will be available at the school to tell parents of the closure.
  • Unaccompanied children will be taken into school and looked after until they can be collected.
