School Games gold strikes again

Well done to our whole school for increased participation and to Miss Petty for her committed leadership!

We have now been consistently GOLD since 2017/18.

That is 'The WIlberfoss Way'!

Background

We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding until 2023 in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. All state-maintained schools, academies, middle schools, special schools and pupil referral units which have primary aged pupils will receive the funding.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Wilberfoss CE VC Primary School.

Allocation
All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £16000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil.

For the academic year Sept 2022 – August 2023 (based on 172 statutory primary aged pupils) we will receive an amount of £17,720.

How will we be spending the Sports Premium funding:
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all and encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of resources and enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.

We are currently undertaking a PE and School Sport audit and developing our Sports Premium plan to raise standards and participation levels in PE throughout the school. Once the audit is complete we will finalise our plans. Our rationale for the use of Sports Premium funding, which the Governors have agreed, are that it must be used so that:

  • all children benefit regardless of sporting ability
  • children are given the opportunity to compete in tournaments with other schools
  • staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
  • some activities may be subsidised so that pupils do not miss out due to financial constraints eg OAA/Swimming/Residential
  • we make use of collaborative and partnership working

With the above rationale in mind, and following the guidelines for how to spend this money, our initial plans for the use of the Sports Premium funding include:

  • Investment in the professional development of staff at our school so they are best equipped to teach high quality Physical Education and school sport for years to come. This will include providing cover to release staff for professional development in PE and sport.
  • Continued membership of the East Riding School Sport Partnership (West) including Youth Sport Trust Primary membership.
  • Setting up and running at least one new after school sports club / Change4Life sport club.
  • Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional sports clubs.
  • Increasing the amount of competitive sport in which our children participate - running sport competitions, and increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games and inter school competitions with the other SSP schools.
  • Continuing to take part in local sports competitions/events organised by East Riding School Sport Partnership (West), during the year 2022/23.
  • Making links to other community sports providers – encouraging pupils to join out of school sports clubs.
  • Encouraging our children to improve their leadership skills through sport – through sports/play leader initiative.
  • Developing intra-school competitions.
  • Ensuring the school has the facilities and resources that allows for healthy, active lifestyles through active play and high quality physical education.
  • Ensuring the school has the facilities and resources  that allows all year round competitive sport.

Impact

We will evaluate the impact of the Sports Premium funding as part of our normal self-evaluation and provision mapping arrangements. We will look at how well we use our Sport Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Measuring the impact of the activities provided with sports premium funding can be achieved in different ways. We will look at progress in PE as well as other areas of development such as self-esteem, confidence and the numbers of pupils involved in sporting activities in and out of school. Assessments are made both formally and informally using our school assessment systems as well as feedback from staff and visitors to the school. We will also evaluate the impact of professional development opportunities in improving teaching and learning in PE. It is anticipated that at the end of the academic year we will have some hard data to show the impact of this sports premium funding on pupil progress and involvement in sport.
