Online Safety

Online Safety

Children at Wilberfoss School use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. In school, we have regular 'e-safety' activities to remind children of the importance of keeping themselves safe online.

You can download and read our school's Online  Safety Policy.

At home, sometimes children can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes.

Here are some useful tips and links to help you to keep your children safe online:

We would encourage parents to set up parental controls in order to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content online. These controls can be used in various ways, for example to help ensure that children access only age-appropriate content, to set usage times, to monitor activity, or to help prevent in-app purchases.

Keep your computer in a shared area - Talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, set up your computer in a shared area at home so that you can all share in the wonderful sites that are available online.

Why not put one up next to the computer at home and talk about it with your children?

The Children’s Commissioner for England has published a guide to help parents and carers manage children’s digital lives. The guide aims to explain common online challenges, help families start and sustain open conversations, and provide support with setting boundaries. The guide includes a checklist of actions and an additional activity pack for children.
